A Transition to Fall: De-glorifying the Idea of Busyness
'Tis the season for crispy weather, steaming mugs and scrunchy socks.
Transitioning to Fall
The last few posts have been pretty heavy topics, so I’d like to lighten things up this time! I always feel a wave of relief on the first day of fall, like, okay, we can officially snuggle into our sofas, guilt-free. It feels like permission to settle into a more quiet routine and whipping up heartier, family favorite recipes. And, most importantly, let the Halloween costume brainstorming commence!
It’s the time of year where we stick to a 9-5 workday, help Lucy with homework while one of us cooks dinner, and we end the day with pajamas and an hour of coloring, crafts or something creative. There’s often soft music to fit the mood (even Lucy knows to say, Alexa, play Dinner Jazz, as she sets the dinner table), and a heavy emphasis on slowing down and minimal screen time.
Busy-ness? Get Out of Here.
After our summer of — healing? finding myself? seeking joy?, Scott and I have had several conversations about how we want to live this one precious life. Our biggest takeaway? We are no longer falling into the trap of glorifying busy-ness. Our weeknights are not filled with shuttling Lucy from activity to activity, and our weekends have been spent brunching and browsing yard sales, admiring our city on wandering bicycle rides. An open calendar is not an invite to fill it up.
Look at us, making boundaries!
All this to say, the changing of the seasons feels like a perfect time to dig into the routines we crave and actively choose happiness and contentment over the expectation to go, go, go. I remind myself: We’re in a slower phase of life right now, and that’s okay. Soak it up, Kim. Soak it up as much as you can.
What does this time of year signify for you?
Layering Up for Cooler Temps
Can we all agree that fall is the best time of year for clothes? Sunny may require my basic uniform of tee + jeans + belt + sneakers, whereas others require layering on a chocolate corduroy jacket or preppy half-zip. By the way, if you’re looking for that perfectly oversized, thicker weight cotton tee with a mid-length sleeve detail, I can’t recommend this T-shirt enough! I have 3 colors and Scott has 3 more — we swap with each other constantly.
And can I make a case for the Coach daypack? I have it in black (a quick Etsy search will bring up several of them in various colors), and it is my GO-TO fall + winter bag. Chances are, you’ve seen it all over my photos on LTK! It’s chic, holds quite a bit, and never goes out of style.

What We’re Watching
We’re in a TV rut! As we inch closer to longer evenings, there’s just something about knowing you can curl up to watch ‘your show’ with your partner. Scott and I like to watch a new episode of something we enjoy together, while also having a sitcom we love to get us through between episodes (right now, it’s our 5th rewatch of Schitt’s Creek). Here’s what we’ve enjoyed/are enjoying recently:
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox (Hulu) | We’re all caught up, and I think there are 2 episodes to go! This show comes out weekly, and we loathe the 7 days in-between — it’s THAT good. True crime lovers, courtroom drama lovers and even those that think they already know the ins and the outs of the Amanda Knox case will enjoy this show while screaming at your television.
The Hunting Wives (Netflix) | We’ve all seen this by now, right? I was sucked in from episode 1 and enjoyed it the entire way through. It took me all of 3 days, and I heard season 2 should be out in summer 2026!
The Curious Case of Natalia Grace (Hulu) | We finished this a couple months ago, but we still talk about it on a regular basis. This docuseries had us questioning ev-er-y-thing in every single episode, and our heads are still spinning. (For what it’s worth, I fully believe she was a child.)
Which shows are you recommending to friends right now?
Other Things This Week
The 3 ingredients we pour into our backyard for the coziest fall vibes. I couldn’t deal without #2!
This moment of zen has popped up in my feed more than once from various accounts. The happiest thing I’ve seen all week. (CC, my love, is that you?!)

I’m still trying to understand how our friend Dabito thought to use leather to tent the ceiling and walls of this dining room (above)! But also, of course he did. Dabito continues to push me outside of my comfort zone, and this room is a beautiful example of a style that’s all-his-own.
Hanging a spooky trio of brooms suspended by our front door was a super quick DIY, and the neighborhood kids love it! These are the brooms we used (on sale!), the tutorial, and a round up of other spooky favorites, also shared below!

Love the floating brooms! They look so good with the bats.
If you're looking for a new sitcom, you may want to try North of North. Reminds me a bit of Schitts Creek.
